The project is funded from November 2019 to November 2022.

Data collection for Year 1 has been completed. A total of 36 semi-structured interviews were conducted with regular visitors to the zoo, horse races, and/or greyhound races.

Data collection for Year 2 has been completed and included:
A nationwide survey of the practices and experiences of 117 regular visitors to the zoo, the horse races, and/or the greyhound races.
Semi-structured interviews with a second cohort of 23 site visitors, recruited from the survey participants.
Semi-structured interviews with 8 industry representatives involved behind the scenes of these industries, gaining insights into their everyday routines.

Year 3 focused on animal heterotopia or 'counter-sites' where normalised meanings, understandings, and practices associated with animals, whether free-living, domesticated, and/or commensal, are disrupted, shattered, overturned, and re-imagined. Data collection has been completed and included:
